Huntly Bypass – Waikato Expressway

Working with the Fulton Hogan-Heb JV, SouthernSkies has provided the erosion and sediment control lead through tendering, design and implementation for the Huntly Bypass project.  Despite the various challenges presented by the route, including steep slopes, large cuts and multiple river and stream crossings, the project was awarded the Waikato Regional Council Earthworks Site of the Year in 2016.  This is a reflection of the consistent high standard of erosion and sediment control achieved by Campbell Stewart and the project team.

Central Plains Water

On behalf of Fulton Hogan, SouthernSkies has prepared the erosion and sediment control plans for the construction of Stage 1 of the Central Plains Water project in Canterbury.  SouthernSkies assisted Fulton Hogan in tendering, design and now implementation, to achieve industry best practice and full compliance with resource consents.  SouthernSkies is familiar with the requirements of regional plans and guidelines throughout New Zealand and can always service projects at competitive rates, including time on site with project teams, training and site auditing.

Lincoln Road / Te Atatu / Causeway SH16 Projects

The Lincoln Road, Te Atatu and Causeway NZTA projects comprised adding additional lanes, coastal reclamation, bridge replacements and widening and interchange upgrades from north of Lincoln Road Eastwood to tie in with the new Waterview connection with SH20. The projects extended over a period of  6 years. SouthernSkies provided environmental and erosion and sediment control lead through tender, design and implementation. The projects achieved outstanding track record of compliance scores from the Auckland Council.

Te Uku Wind Farm

The Te Uku Wind Farm project saw 28 wind turbines constructed inland from Raglan. The project was constructed by Spartan Hicks Joint Venture. SouthernSkies undertook the environmental lead for Hicks, developing and obtaining sign off for all erosion and sediment control plans, and provide ongoing site auditing and liaison with Environment Waikato compliance staff. It comprised of  25km of access roads on very steep, challenging hill country with sensitive receiving environments and strict consent conditions. Despite encountering rain storms in excess of a 100 year event, the close auditing and commitment of the project team ensured that the works have avoided any adverse environmental effects, and the earthworks were also completed ahead of schedule. In August 2010 the project was given the inaugural “Site of the Year” award by Environment Waikato in recognition of its high standard of erosion and sediment controls in this environmentally sensitive area.

Te Rapa Bypass

Winner of the Waikato Regional Council's Earthworks Site of the Year, in 2011 and 2012 the Te Rapa Bypass project achieved on-going environmental excellence throughout its construction. 

The Te Rapa Arterial project, which forms part of the Waikato Express Way, provided the perfect opportunity for SouthernSkies and Fulton Hogan to establish an ongoing collaborative relationship in the delivery of best practice environment outcomes in roading projects. In this case SouthernSkies director Campbell Stewart provided the role of Environmental Advisor for the project, through tendering, design and delivery. This ensured that the project met and exceeded all environmental requirements of the resource consents granted by the Waikato Regional Council, and industry best practise.
